Delta County was created in 1843 (1843 PA 89), and so named because the original, triangular shape of the county recalled the Greek letter “delta.” It was organized in 1861 (1863 PA 16). Modern day Delta County runs along the northern Lake Michigan shoreline, stretches almost down to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and is home to the historic iron smelting townsite of Fayette on the Garden Peninsula.
