Does the State of Michigan accept electronic payments (e.g. direct debit, debit card, credit cards and eChecks)?
Yes, you may choose a direct debit from a checking or savings account when the return is e-filed and supported by the software. A direct debit is a tax payment electronically withdrawn from the taxpayer’s bank account through the tax software used to electronically file the individual income tax return. Submitting the electronic return with the direct debit information provided, acts as the taxpayer’s authorization to withdraw the funds from their bank account. Requesting the direct debit payment is voluntary and only applies to the electronic return that is being filed.
You may also use The Michigan Department of Treasury's e-Payments system to make individual income tax payments via debit card, credit card and eCheck payments for the following:
- Michigan Individual Income Tax Return MI-1040 (current tax year only)
- Michigan Estimated Income Tax for Individuals MI-1040ES
- Michigan Individual Income Tax Extension
See the e-Payments system FAQs for details.
