The Michigan Department of Treasury has been made aware that some "Reminder of Tax Due" letters sent to taxpayers contain an incorrect toll-free (1-800) TTY number, which may connect callers to a potential scam. Taxpayers with questions regarding unpaid individual income taxes are asked to contact the Treasury directly at 517-636-4486. We apologize for any confusion or concern this may have caused.
Denial of Home Heating Credit Claim - Filed After Deadline
This letter was sent because the Michigan Home Heating Credit Claim MI-1040CR-7 was received after the filing deadline. The Home Heating Credit Claim must be filed on or before September 30th following the tax year for which the credit is claimed.
Example: A 2023 Home Heating Credit Claim MI-1040CR-7 must be filed on or before September 30, 2024. The filing of an extension for income taxes does not extend the home heating credit deadline.
