Maps provide researchers with useful historical, physical and cultural information. This bibliography highlights maps at the Library of Michigan which might be overlooked because they are on microform.
State and County Atlases
The following historical atlases for Michigan may assist you in finding places such as towns, family farms, cemeteries, schoolhouses, and land ownership. You will need to consult the indexes behind the Reference Desk to help locate these atlases; the indexes are noted after the series titles.

Fire Insurance Maps
These maps were made for fire insurance companies and contain highly detailed information on such building features as size and shape, construction, occupancy, and street address. More than 300 Michigan towns from 1884 to 1989 are represented.
