New Director Workshop
The New Director Workshop is a self-paced, online course called "Pathway For New Directors in Michigan Public Libraries". The virtual content is accessed within the Library of Michigan's Niche Staff Skills Academy. The pathway consists of 20 courses taking approximately nine hours to complete. The pathway content provides new library directors with an introduction to the information necessary to administer a public library in Michigan. This includes providing an opportunity to gain an understanding of services and programs related to Library of Michigan that can support a director in carrying out their responsibilities.
Completion of the entire pathway content is necessary for director certification as part of the qualification criteria for State Aid to Public Libraries. New library directors for Class 1-6 libraries must complete the pathway within a year of the initial appointment date.
TIP! Those directors required to complete this course during the first year of their initial appointment should create only one profile in the Niche system to complete the 20 courses. If you complete courses under different logins you will not be able to complete the entire pathway and receive your certificate without taking courses multiple times.
The training is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Check the Advanced Director Workshop page for details about that training opportunity.
