DTMB’s Andrew Belanger named GSM president, highlighted in Capitol Ideas magazine

Andrew Belanger, statewide social media director and digital content administrator with the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB), was elected as president of the Government Social Media (GSM) Membership Council.

In addition to serving as president of the GSM Membership Council, Belanger is concluding the second year of a two year term as GSM’s Northeast Region Council representative. As one of six elected Council representatives across the U.S., he represents members in CT, DE, D.C., KY, IN, ME, MD, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, VA, WV. Through his work with GSM he also serves as co-chair of the GSM Membership Committee.

Founded in 2015, GSM is the first and largest professional association for public sector social media professionals in North America. Supporting members across the U.S. and Canada, Belanger and the Council support GSM in hosting events, providing trainings, and sharing industry resources with members and the government social media community at large.

Each council member takes on various roles to best support association members, including the leadership positions of Membership Council president and vice president.

Belanger was also recently highlighted in the third 2023 issue of The Council of State Governments Capitol Ideas magazine for his work overseeing the State of Michigan’s social media program. In a, Michigan Gets Social article, he discussed how Michigan has leveraged social media over the years to expand traditional channels of constituent outreach and further promote living, working, playing, visiting, and doing business in the state.
