Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget receives Innovation in State Government Award

On Sept. 25, the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) Central Procurement Services received an Innovation in State Government Award from the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) for their efforts in Digital Services, Data Management, Analytics & Visualization.

The Innovation in State Government Awards recognize state administration department programs, projects, and initiatives that exemplify leading practices in the industry. Central Procurement Services received an award for their Enhancing Vendor Compliance Through RMIS Integration program, which included the following:

  • The risk management information system (RMIS), which is a comprehensive software platform that collects risk and claims information for management, analysis, and reporting. Using this system for procurement purposes has ensured that the financial burden of potential incidents resides with the party best positioned to prevent them – the vendor. Central Procurement Services also achieved savings in time and money by using the system. They have estimated that they have reduced administrative time spent on compliance by 66% and saved around $40,000 annually in personnel costs.
  • The record management information system was implemented for state procurement offices and is currently being executed in eight phases. The phase one pilot began in March 2022 with DTMB’s Central Procurement Services division. Central Procurement Services began the pilot with a 1.8% vendor compliance rate. Today, the vendor compliance rate is consistently over 75%. Phase two is currently underway.

DTMB Director Michelle Lange accepted the award on behalf of Central Procurement Services during a ceremony in Louisville, KY, which she accredited the success in developing and executing the record management information system to the talented team members at the at DTMB who have dedicated their time, talent, and knowledge in service to the State of Michigan.
