DTMB releases state’s regional long-term job outlook at annual Michigan Occupational Outlook Conference

The in-demand job information assists students and jobseekers in choosing a career path

LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) presented the latest regional long-term employment projections to an audience of state policymakers and education and workforce development professionals at the 2023 Michigan Occupational Outlook Conference at Lansing Community College. Based on the projections, the regional career outlook publications provide information for careers that will be in the highest demand by education group through 2030 in Michigan.

“With the state's focus on increasing the number of adults with a skill certificate or college degree, this information is a valuable resource for students and jobseekers as they make decisions about their futures,” said Scott Powell, director of DTMB’s Michigan Center for Data and Analytics. “It is our goal to provide our education and workforce development partners with the information they need to help Michiganders find their path to high-demand, high-wage jobs.”

Following the conference, the 10 Regional Career Outlook publications were released. The publications feature high-demand jobs based on education level and the top jobs in STEM careers, those occupations with a science, technology, engineering, or math background.

The annual Michigan Occupational Outlook Conference brought together representatives from education, state government, the Legislature, and workforce development to learn about the information available to them and how it is developed. In addition, state-led efforts to create pathways to high-demand career opportunities for Michiganders were also highlighted in a presentation by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Sixty by 30.
