September 19, 2024
LANSING, Mich. – Today, the State of Michigan was recognized as a top five state for creating and delivering citizen-centric services across digital platforms by the Center for Digital Government in its eighth annual rankings.
Michigan placed fourth in the nation for overall state government experience, marking the fifth year the state has finished in the top five. The awards recognize government entities who raise the bar on the experience of government services to create a better engaged constituency and a more responsive government.
Michigan’s 2024 fourth-place finish follows:
- finalist in 2023
- first-place overall U.S. state government in 2021
- finalist in 2020
- fourth place overall in 2019
- fifth place overall in 2018
- fourth place overall in 2017
The state was not eligible to submit in 2022, due to its first-place finish in 2021.
“2024 was marked by Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) role in augmenting the government experience,” said Dustin Haisler, president of e.Republic. “While many experiences were enhanced by emerging technologies, it was notable to see leading agencies continue their human-centered approaches to service delivery and management.”
Michigan’s human-centered digital design strategy, integration of AI technology, expanded single sign-on services, unified branding across digital platforms, and strengthened digital accessibility were central to this year’s award recognition.
“We are honored to be recognized again for our work and strategy to build and expand human-centered digital experiences,” stated Suzanne Pauley, Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) eMichigan director. “As we continue to deliver digital solutions for the people and businesses of Michigan, we remain committed to creating simple and intuitive digital experiences across our diverse platforms. We are excited about the future and our use of technology to further expand and strengthen our digital offerings.”
In addition to the State of Michigan being recognized in the 2024 award program, Macomb County government was recognized as a finalist in the Overall County Government Experience category. The City of Detroit was recognized among the 36 special Government Experience Project Awards.
