State of Michigan Procurement wins gold and silver Cronin Awards for second year in a row

State of Michigan Procurement was awarded a gold and silver George Cronin Award for Procurement Excellence by the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO). NASPO is the primary trade organization for state procurement agencies and seeks to help members achieve success as public procurement leaders.

This marks the second year State of Michigan Procurement has won both gold and silver awards and is the third consecutive year winning a gold Cronin. The awards:

  • Cloudy with a Chance of Savings: Infrastructure as a Service (Gold Award Winner) - State of Michigan Procurement engaged in extensive concurrent negotiations with the largest cloud services providers to implement consistent, preferable terms and conditions for the state’s cloud-hosting needs. By engaging providers simultaneously, procurement officials were able to leverage the competition to produce two optimized direct contracts.
  • Enhancing Vendor Compliance Through RMIS Integration (Silver Award Winner) - Burdened by the manual processes of monitoring insurance coverage, State of Michigan Procurement – Enterprise Risk Management team implemented an automated Risk Management Information System (RMIS) to ensure that suppliers’ certificates of insurance met their contractual requirements. RMIS represents another step towards digital transformation.

NASPO also recognized Michigan State University and State of Michigan Procurement with the inaugural Academic Collaboration Recognition award. The Academic Collaboration Recognition honors outstanding partnerships between state agencies and local colleges and universities. Their collaboration has been instrumental in developing future procurement talent and inspiring the next generation of public servants.

About the Academic Collaboration Recognition award

NASPO's George Cronin Awards for Procurement Excellence recognize outstanding state procurement initiatives—appreciating the work that procurement personnel have undertaken and the projects they have accomplished that result in distinct benefits to their state in economy, efficiency, delivery of services, or some combination of each. By calling attention to these efforts, the Cronin Awards serve to disseminate and encourage adoption of these initiatives by other states. In this way, Cronin awardees and finalists create opportunities for improving the procurement function nationwide.
