State of Michigan places in top five for digital experience in Government Experience Awards
September 25, 2025
LANSING, Mich. – Earlier this week, the State of Michigan was recognized again as a top five state for creating and delivering user-centric digital services by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) in its ninth annual rankings.
Michigan placed fourth in the nation for overall state government experience, marking the sixth year the state has finished in the top five.
The Government Experience Awards recognize government entities who raise the bar on the experience of government services to create a better-engaged constituency and a more responsive digital government. Winners were celebrated at the virtual CDG GovX Summit today, which highlighted government agencies and their work to blend people-first service and next-generation digital tools.
Michigan’s 2025 fourth-place finish follows:
- fourth place overall in 2024
- finalist in 2023
- first-place overall U.S. state government in 2021
- finalist in 2020
- fourth place overall in 2019
- fifth place overall in 2018
- fourth place overall in 2017
The state was not eligible to submit in 2022, due to its first-place finish in 2021.
“We’ve talked for years about a ‘no wrong door approach’ to government services,” said Dustin Haisler, President of e.Republic. “Today, technology is making that vision real. From AI to anticipatory experiences, agencies are showing that residents can access services in the way that works best for them, and still get an experience that is inclusive, equitable, and designed around their needs.”
This year’s recognition follows our Sept. 16 our announcement for the State of Michigan being named a finalist in three award categories for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) State IT Recognition Awards.
“The recent recognition from CDG and NASCIO reflects the State of Michigan’s unwavering commitment to strengthen our digital services, expand digital accessibility, and use AI responsibly,” stated Suzanne Pauley, Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) eMichigan director. “With our innovative use of technology to better serve our businesses and residents, we’re proud to lead with solutions that are forward-thinking, inclusive, and impactful."
