Program Description
In the Pharmacy Technician program, students acquire essential customer service skills needed to interact professionally with pharmacy customers, co-workers, and other healthcare professionals. Students receive hands-on experience related to pharmacy procedures and essential job duties of pharmacy technicians. Students also receive hands-on experience in receiving, processing, and distributing prescriptions. Emphasis is placed on following all pharmacy related laws and regulations. Students learn to work safely in a team, independently and under the direction of a licensed Pharmacist. Students receive additional experience and assistance in preparing for national certification.

Depending on skills, ability, & interests, students can participate up to 3 terms.

Job Outlook

Job opportunities increase after completion of training. Starting pay may range from the current minimum wage to a higher amount depending on the location of the job.


  • Enjoy working with people, strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate in oral/written formats
  • Task planning, time management and organization; average clerical perception
  • Ability to use information technology
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Math skills: algebra, proportions, decimals, fractions, weights, and measures
  • Basic keyboarding skills: ability to attain keyboard speed of 30 wpm
  • Demonstrates good judgment; enjoys a variety of tasks

Students who most closely match the U.S. Department of Labor occupational profile for a Pharmacy Technician are accepted for enrollment.
