MI Impact Grant

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) provided $15 million in funding, through the MI Impact Grant program, to support the critical work of ten nonprofits to provide meaningful and sustained relief in the communities they serve and provide a lasting impact.

LEO is accepting applications for innovative programs that provide, or expand, programming with the intent of lifting people out of poverty and above the ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained, Employed) threshold, especially as it pertains to the effects COVID-19 had on this population.

Eligibility 

Impact Grant applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Be a nonprofit, operating in Michigan, certified as a 501(c)3 or 501 (c)19 by the Internal Revenue Service. Recipients are required to provide an IRS letter of determination of nonprofit status.
  • Provide expanded services to meet the needs of individuals in poverty and to lift families above the ALICE threshold.
  • Demonstrate financial stability and capacity to manage additional funds.
  • Be compliant with state and federal regulatory bodies including the IRS, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), and Michigan Attorney General.
  • Must have been in operation prior to January 1, 2019

Application

Applications will be accepted until June 26, at noon. It is highly recommended that applicants review the Request for Proposals prior to completing the application.

MI Nonprofit Relief Fund

THE APPLICATION FOR THE MI NONPROFIT RELIEF FUND CLOSED ON MAY 5, 2023 AT 11:59 PM EST.

The Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) launched the $35 million MI Nonprofit Relief Fund to assist Michigan’s nonprofits who are struggling with the negative impacts and hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic so they can continue to serve their hard-hit communities.

The relief fund, designed for small nonprofits, is part of a two-part grant program. An additional $15 million in grants will be available to larger nonprofits later this year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this funding, organizations must be a Michigan-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit or a fiscally sponsored project by a 501(c)(3) and able to demonstrate necessary expenditures and/or losses due to the COVID-19 public health emergency incurred after March 3, 2021. MNA membership is not required to apply. Nonprofits must have been in operation prior to January 1, 2019, and be compliant with state and federal regulatory bodies, including the IRS, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), and the Michigan Attorney General.
