The mission of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is to help protect the safety and health of Michigan workers.
Some of MIOSHA's key health and safety activities include:
- Setting and enforcing occupational safety and health standards
- Providing extensive safety and health training and education
- Working with partners to develop innovative programs to prevent workplace hazards
MIOSHA Divisions and Sections
MIOSHA has developed a strategic plan to guide our resource strategies in helping to protect worker safety and health in Michigan. The strategic plan focuses on three strategic goals that are consistent with those of federal OSHA. To accomplish these strategic goals, MIOSHA has established outcome and performance goals that will guide the program during the next five years.

|Bart Pickelman was appointed Director of MIOSHA on October 5, 2016. Bart began his MIOSHA career as a compliance officer and also served as ergonomic specialist, safety and health manager, and MIOSHA deputy director.
As Director, he oversees all aspects of the MIOSHA program, which includes occupational safety and health compliance in general industry and construction, and the outreach activities of the Consultation Education and Training Division. The MIOSHA program also includes the Radiation Safety Section that is responsible for the registration of over 29,000 x-ray machines.
Mr. Pickelman is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with close to 30 years of experience in occupational safety and health in both the private and public sectors. Bart has demonstrated strong leadership through his administration of the MIOSHA program and its more than 200 employees. Bart has a true passion for the MIOSHA mission of helping protect the safety and health of Michigan workers.
