How to Protect Your Private Information
Protect yourself from scammers; learn how to identify what a scam is.
If you are unsure if a something is a scam or not; do not click on links in texts or emails from unknown sources. If you get a suspicious email or call allegedly to be from UIA, contact the agency to confirm its validity.
The UIA will never contact you through text message, from a personal email or ask for personal information like your social security number, banking numbers, username and passwords or credit card numbers.
UIA tips to protect your information:
- Every time you certify for benefits, verify the banking information that you entered when you filed your claim.
- Change your MiWAM account password regularly, using a strong combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numerals, and special characters.
- Closely monitor bank statements for any suspicious transactions or withdrawals.
- Watch for unusual activity on your phone or added charges on your bill.
- Never give out your password or login information
