Grant Overview
Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and MiSTEM are partnering to make strategic investments in PreK-12 systems to increase industry awareness and career exposure activities for PreK-8 students. Through the partnership, MEDC is committing to implementing the MiSTEM statewide 3P (place-, project-, problem-based) STEM strategy. The strategic investment serves as an exemplar model for the efforts to align the State of Michigan's strategic industries and supporting employer engagement, with MiSTEM's statewide strategy, which emphasizes authentic and experiential learning experiences.

Grant Resources
MiSTEM Network Advisory Council Grant
Under Section 99s(3) and (4), the state school aid fund money is allocating $3.05 million to fund grants recommended by the MiSTEM Advisory Council for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs in Michigan.
The 2023-24 MiSTEM Advisory Council Grant will coordinate statewide actors, activities and STEMworks programs designed to move forward the State STEM Strategy. To accomplish this, the following statewide action areas are identified as necessary to move forward a shared state STEM definition and vision through high-quality STEM learning experiences.
Action Areas
The MiSTEM Advisory Council Grant Program will:
- Elevate mathematics as the language of STEM and a tool for STEM exploration.
- Ensure that students have Science and Engineering Literacy as a 21st-century skill.
- Emphasize the importance of and expand access to high-quality Computer Science experiences.
Each action area must also connect to career exploration in formal and informal PK-12 education settings across the state. The action areas have worked, and continue to work, diligently to bring together consortiums to help develop and execute a strategic plan to move forward high-quality STEM experiences in Michigan.
