What are the Pine Lake Apartments?
The Pine Lake Apartments occupies land adjacent to the campus of the Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI). Owned and operated by the Pine Lake Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3)organization, the housing complex consists of 10 two bedroom and 10 three bedroom units for students attending MCTI. Ten of the units are MSHDA low-income qualifying units while the other 10 units are non-income based. The availability of this low-cost housing provides opportunities for students with special living needs to acquire their education at MCTI, while living in an environment that may be more suitable than dormitory living based on each individual's unique needs. For the health and safety of everyone, no smoking is allowed in the apartments.
What are the admissions criteria?
- Current student status or graduate of MCTI
- Non-students associated with MCTI
- Disability is stabilized
- A completed housing/admissions packet including background check and discharge plan
What are the expectations of the student?
- Maintain current status as MCTI student or other affiliation
- Reside in rural environment with limited transportation for shopping and appointments
- Maintain complete supervision of children when not in daycare or school
- Acceptance of the lease requirements
What does it cost?
Currently, housing costs range from $325-$470 per month for two bedroom units and $375-$575/mo for three bedroom units depending on income and assets. These costs include utilities and local phone access. Security Deposits are not required. Contact the Executive Director for current rates.
What will the student need to bring?
The housing units are furnished with a couch, chair, end tables, dining table/chairs, lamps, twin beds, dressers, desk tops, desk chairs, shower curtains and all appliances. Vacuums, brooms and cleaning supplies are available for checkout. Washers and dryers are available in each building for $1.25/per use. Students need to bring dishes, pots & pans, kitchen utensils, bedding for twin beds, towels, telephone, TV, clock, personal products and clothing.
