Health Services
The Health Services Department at MCTI offers a wide range of services. These include occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological counseling, clinical social work, dietetic counseling, dental, dental hygiene, substance abuse counseling, and physician/nursing services.
Nursing Service provides assistance to students in the areas of disability management, health teaching, minor acute illness care, and liaison with home area treating medical specialists.
Psychosocial Services include psychological assessments, crisis intervention, counseling, guidance, support, and disability management/education. In addition, efforts are made to coordinate services with a student's Community Mental Health or private provider. Students are also assisted with life skills development.
Other services provided onsite for staff and students include CPR and First Aid Training, Sexual Harassment Prevention programs, and Infection Control Education.
On-going support groups on campus include TBI Support, Serious Mental Illness Support, and Relapse Prevention Support.
Special Health Considerations for Incoming MCTI Students:
- TB skin testing for all students and staff has been mandated by the Community Health Department. It is required that entering students have a negative status documentation to protect other students in the school environment. If the skin test is positive, a chest x-ray may be ordered. We then require a written statement from the Health Department or physician stating "no evidence of tuberculosis."
- A general medical exam is also required to provide baseline health information to MCTI nurses and local private health care providers in case of a health emergency.
- It is very important for students to have a copy of their health care insurance card and arrangements for local health care if the student has HMO health coverage. If a student does not have health insurance, he or she should be advised of coverage options through the Department of Human Services for Medicaid or MSA voucher system.
- Enrolling students should continue with their local Community Mental Health therapist/psychiatrist if ongoing care and prescriptions may be needed.
