The Polygraph Section is available to law enforcement partners and the criminal justice system to assist in solving crimes through the use of validated psychological and physiological techniques.
The MSP Polygraph Section, founded in 1935, is the oldest state agency polygraph section in the country. The highly trained examiners utilize credibility assessment techniques to ascertain truth from deception and give investigative direction to the requesting agencies.
The mainstay of these techniques is the polygraph instrument. The polygraph instrument is used with several validated psychophysiological techniques having proven sensitivity and specificity. Techniques are selected based on the type of information needed and the intended application of the information.
