Light up the City
Light up the City
Spearheaded by law enforcement, the ‘Light Up the City’ initiative unites community organizations with law enforcement agencies to work toward the common goal of preventing crime by developing partnerships among residents, elected officials, healthcare organizations, educators, housing organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders. The initiative empowers citizens to take action, report crime, and to become involved in solving community issues. Law enforcement officers and community members walk through neighborhoods to educate residents about community matters and to strengthen relationships. In order to ‘Light Up the City,’ residents are encouraged to turn on their porch light in support of the initiative. This visual message signifies the unity of law enforcement and the community in taking back control of the neighborhood.
Current participating communities include Saginaw, Flint, Jackson, and Muskegon Heights.
