Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle.

As required by the code of federal regulations (23 CFR Part 1340), the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) works with an awarded agency to determine what the state’s seat belt and handheld mobile device (phones, tablets, cameras, handheld gaming devices, etc.) use rates are in passenger motor vehicles on Michigan roadways.
