Law Enforcement Accreditation

In August 2020, the MSP started the process to become accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., known as CALEA. The CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation process focuses on standards that provide best practices related to life, health, and safety procedures for the agency. These standards are considered foundational for contemporary law enforcement agencies. The program provides the framework for addressing high risk issues within a contemporary environment, and ensures officers are prepared to meet basic community service expectations and prepared to manage critical events.

Public Comment
The Michigan State Police invites the public to offer comments, commendations, and other information regarding the department’s quality of service or other information relevant to the accreditation process on the CALEA Public Comment Portal.

IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body. Information regarding criminal activity or complaints about MSP employee misconduct should not be submitted through the portal. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
