Public Swimming Pools

The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) requires a permit when building a public swimming pool.

Please note that before EGLE can release a swimming pool license, all swimming pool fees (prior and current) will need to be paid in full. EGLE also must receive a current approved or conditional swimming pool inspection report conducted by the Local Health Department before a license can be released. If you have paid for your swimming pool license and have not received it in the mail, please contact Starla Walter.

The EGLE public swimming pool program uses the Michigan Environmental Health and Drinking Water Information System (MiEHDWIS), nicknamed Eddy. This easy-to-use system allows for better communication and more efficient processes for licensed public swimming pools. Current functionality allows external users to create an account and directly upload documents such as applications, engineered construction plans, and other supporting information from public swimming pool owners or inspection reports from local health department staff. Additional functionality will be released in the future.
