Water Well Contractor Registration
EGLE's Source Water Unit (SWU) conducts annual registration of water well drilling contractors, dewatering contractors, limited well drilling contractors, pump installers, and well drilling rigs in accordance with Part 127, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.12701 to 333.12715 and Administrative Rules in the Michigan Water Well Construction and Pump Installation Code.
By law, all registrations expire on April 30th and renewal applications must be submitted by March 1st. Contractors which fail to renew their registration by May 1st cannot conduct any well drilling or pump installation activities until such time their registration is renewed. Contractors can renew their registrations electronically by using Wellogic.

Michigan Groundwater Association (MGWA)
The Michigan Ground Water Association (MGWA) sponsors the annual Fundamentals Course. This course is designed for those individuals that are pursuing their certificate of registration in Michigan as a well drilling contractor or pump installation contractor. It is also recommended for those individuals new to the well construction industry or those just needing a basic water supply refresher. Topics include: geology, groundwater movement, well records, well drilling methods, well grouting and plugging, sanitary practices, water system sizing and design, disinfection and sampling, pressure tank principles, pump installation, and electrical troubleshooting. The MGWA also sponsors the Technical Course, which is intended for all audiences. Please visit the MGWA website for details.

National Ground Water Association (NGWA)
The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) offers a certification program for contractors and pump installers in the ground water industry. Eligible candidates will need to take and pass the Master Ground Water Contractor (MGWC) exam. The program is designed to demonstrate pride in your job and to promote professionalism in the ground water industry.
