Reducing/Diverting Wasted Food 2016
A total of $241,800 in 2016 Community Pollution Prevention Grant funds were awarded to support four projects across the state, all aimed at reducing and diverting wasted food. EGLE identified food waste as a significant waste stream with high potential for reduction. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, food waste constitutes 21 percent of discarded municipal solid waste.
