Firearms Records

 

The MSP serves as a point of contact in the State to coordinates background checks in accordance with the Brady Act between NICS, local agencies and the FBI. Assistance to the public and criminal justice agencies is also provided in determining eligibility to own/purchase firearms.

 

Legislation requires the MSP to maintain License to Purchase Pistols and Safety Inspection Certificates, Concealed Pistols Licenses, Gas Ejecting Licenses. Activity on guns (i.e. stolen, recovered, and destroyed) is utilized by the criminal justice community.

 

The MSP receives and processes weapons confiscated by all Michigan law enforcement agencies under the Michigan concealed weapons statutes.
