Waste Characterization Reference Book

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (formerly the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality) hosted a series of workshops to explain the process of characterizing waste in 2016.  The Waste Characterization Workshop expanded on the basic concepts and principles covered in EGLE's Introductory Hazardous Waste and Liquid Industrial By-Products Regulation Webinar Series. Each workshop attendee received a copy of the 2016 Waste Characterization Reference Book.  Since adoption of the federal generator improvement rules in 2020, the webinar series has been updated, however the reference book has not.  Where new materials are available for a chapter/topic, they are available below and highlighted as new.  Additional resources helpful for complying with Michigan's waste regulations include:
