Retail Environmental Workgroup

The EGLE Retail Environmental Workgroup was established in November 2015 to evaluate unique retail specific challenges in managing unwanted consumer products to meet the hazardous waste and liquid industrial by-products (formerly liquid industrial waste) regulations. The goal of the workgroup is to produce compliance tool(s) for retailers that:

  • are simple and easy to use,
  • maximize compliance,
  • minimize costs and liabilities,
  • advocate best management practices, and
  • promote statewide consistency.

Workgroup participants include EGLE staff, retail companies with robust compliance programs, and retail associations. The workgroup activities have been paused while EGLE adopts the U.S. EPA Generator Improvement Rules and reviews adoption of the U.S. EPA Final Rule: Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and Amendment to the P075 Listing for Nicotine published February 22, 2019.
