Michigan Ballast Water Reporting Program

Ballast Water Reporting as Authorized by Section 3103 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA) 1994 PA 451, as amended, requires the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to determine whether ballast water management practices are being complied with by all vessels operating on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence waterway.

Any vessel owner and/or operator, and any persons who have contracts for transportation of cargo with an operator that is not on this list are not eligible for a new grant, loan, or award administered by EGLE.  All hardcopy forms that are filled out shall be sent to the email address EGLE-Ballast-Report@Michigan.gov.

For oceangoing vessels: The following vessels have stated compliance with the Code of Best Management Practices for Ballast Water Management provided by the Shipping Federation of Canada.

For non-oceangoing vessels: The following vessels have stated compliance with Voluntary Management Practices to Reduce the Transfer of Aquatic Nuisance Species within the Great Lakes by United States and Canadian Domestic Shipping, provided by the Lake Carrier's Association and the Canadian Shipowners' Association to EGLE.

PLEASE NOTE: The PDF and electronic form found on this web page are part of the Ballast Water Reporting Program and is separate from the Ballast Water Control General Permit reporting requirements. All reporting requirements associated with the vessels Certificate of Coverage (COC) shall be submitted within the Department's MiEnviro permitting database.
