Special Education Personnel Approvals

Intermediate school districts (ISDs) and their member districts can request approvals for certain special education personnel, which are granted by the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education (OSE) through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS).

Visual Impairment & Deaf/Hard of Hearing Consortia for Teacher Preparation (VI & DHH Consortia)

The Michigan Department of Education has partnered with out-of-state universities with teacher preparation programs for teachers of children who are Blind/Visually Impaired or Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and two Michigan institutions of higher education, to deliver online programs that will permit certified teachers to obtain an additional endorsement on their Michigan teaching certificate in either Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Visual Impairment.

Michigan’s Integrated Mathematics Initiative (Mi)2

Michigan’s Integrated Mathematics Initiative (Mi)2 assists the state in creating a cohesive and collaborative system of support and professional development among existing mathematics resources. The initiative identifies and promotes factors that facilitate improved outcomes for all students in mathematics.

The Mi2 website lists training opportunities and other practices that can be used in the classroom to support math for diverse learners.

Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MIBLSI)

MIBLSI partners with school districts to implement and sustain a multi-tier system of supports (MTSS) in their schools to improve student outcomes in behavior and learning. MTSS focuses on providing high quality instruction and interventions matched to student need.

MIBLSI focuses on evidence-based practices implemented with fidelity that are sustainable over time. MIBLSI utilizes data-based decision making at all levels of implementation support.
