School Nutrition Programs Bulletin #8 - Advance Payments Available

March 13, 2020

Advance Payments to sponsors participating in Unanticipated School Closure SFSP are now available.  Please note:  Advance payments are processed through Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Cash Management System (CMS), and will be reconciled with the next payments processed by MDE, not necessarily a child nutrition program reimbursement. Therefore, sponsors expecting other CMS disbursements should carefully consider whether requesting an advance is right for them.

To request an advance:

Please email Wendy Crowley, Financial Specialist, crowleyw@michigan.gov.

Email must come from the sponsor authorized official and include the following:

  • Name of Agency and sponsor number making the request

  • Month for which the advance is requested, (currently, this is the month of March)

  • Dollar amount of advance requested

    • Advances cannot exceed 50% of the reimbursement of the final July 2019 claim for SFSP-only sponsors, or the final January 2020 claim for NSLP participating sponsors.

    • Requests that exceed this threshold will be processed at the above rate.

We are working to process advance payments as quickly as possible, at this time the exact timeline is unknown.

Thank you for partnering with us to feed children in Michigan.  Great things are happening today!
