Deputy State Director of Emergency Management, Michigan State Police

Captain Kevin Sweeney became the deputy state director of Emergency Management in April 2020. He also serves as commander of the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.

Captain Sweeney joined the Michigan State Police on September 24, 1995. During his more than 25-year career with the MSP, Captain Sweeney held many positions while serving at multiple locations across the state.

In his current role, Captain Sweeney is responsible for the statewide management and administration of emergency management and homeland security programs under the authority of the director of the Michigan State Police.

Captain Sweeney also chairs several committees and boards including the Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council (MCCERCC), the Professional Emergency Managers (PEM) Advisory Board, and the Michigan Homeland Security Preparedness Committee.
