About EMHSD
The Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) provides for planning, mitigation, response and recovery from natural and human-made disasters within and outside the state of Michigan under the authority of the Michigan Emergency Management Act.
The Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act is U.S. federal law that provides federal disaster assistance for state and local governments in carrying out their responsibilities to aid citizens in an emergency or disaster. Known as the Stafford Act, it provides the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) the responsibility for coordinating federal relief efforts.
The MSP/EMHSD is responsible for coordinating state and federal resources to assist local government in response and relief activities in the event of an emergency or disaster. The division also coordinates homeland security initiatives and various federal grants.
