The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has developed this virtual training for operators and owners of small, privately-owned public drinking water supplies across the state. Topics include general plans and reliability studies; well approval process for community and noncommunity water supplies; technical, managerial, and financial capacity and resources for water supplies; standard operation procedures; campground, seasonal start-ups; and other issues relative to small drinking water supplies.

Part of the Small Systems Water Operator Training Series. This course is comprised of 5 sessions held August 5 -  August 14, 2025.

Registration Fee: $45 includes all 5 sessions. 

Continuing Education:  Each session provides 0.1 CECs for up to 0.5 CECs in the technical category.

Registration / cancellation deadline:  August 1, 2025

Cancellation policy: Cancellations must be made by August 1, and the registration fee will be refunded.  Cancellations will not be accepted after August 1.  Registrants who do not attend the live webinar will receive a link to the recording.

Session 1 - General Plans and Reliability Studies 

This training will focus on providing small system water operators and owners with information on general plans and reliability studies for both community and noncommunity water supplies.

Session 1 of this series will include:

  • Provide rule citation and required elements of a general plan (15 minutes)
  • Provide rule citation and required elements of a reliability study (15 minutes)
  • Provide an overview of similarities and differences between community and noncommunity water supplies (5 minutes)
  • Show examples of approved general plans and reliability studies (10 minutes)
  • Q&A Session (15 min)

  • Session 2 - Well Approval Process for Community and Noncommunity Water Supplies on Thursday, August 7 from 10:00-11:15 AM

  • Session 4 - Standard  Operation Procedures on Wednesday, August 13 from 10:00-11:15 AM
