Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP)
The Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) is a MIOSHA cooperative program designed to assist employers and employees by providing a mechanism and a set of criteria designed to evaluate and recognize outstanding safety and health management systems. Together, we’ll establish a cooperative relationship between management, labor and MIOSHA.
The Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division offers free, statewide safety and health assistance to employers and employees. MIOSHA’s in-house team of experienced, professional occupational safety experts, construction safety consultants and industrial hygienists provides a wide range of customized services for management and staff. If you are interested in pursuing MVPP, a good first step would be to set up a free site walkthrough and/or health and safety program review for your facility, by completing a Request for Consultative Assistance (RCA).
Does your company already promote worksite-based safety and health and have below-average injury and illness incidence rates? If you go above and beyond MIOSHA standards, let’s shine a spotlight on your exemplary safety and health!

There are two levels of recognition in this program. The Michigan Star program is designed for workplaces that have an exemplary safety and health management system with injury and illness incidence rates below the industry average for the last three years. The Rising Star Program is designed for employers that have demonstrated the potential and commitment to achieve MVPP Star quality, but need to further improve their SHMS before they can obtain Star status. The Rising Star Program provides the “stepping-stone” for those companies who have applied for the Star Program and have the desire and potential to achieve Star status. Injury and illness performance meets that of the MVPP Star site.
Current Star sites are available to mentor other companies that have an interest and desire to improve their safety and health management system. Mentors inform, counsel, train and strive to achieve excellence in safety and health through the program. |
