Founded in 1972, The Caption Center was the world's first captioning agency—pioneering access to television for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing. It has gone on to set the standard for caption quality, as well as for cutting-edge software and systems development designed to improve the captioning process. The Caption Center maintains an ongoing commitment to conducting outreach among viewers with hearing loss, those learning English as a second language, and people of all ages learning to read.

Graphic Artist’s Guild – Disability Access Symbols

The Graphic Artists Guild is a national union of illustrators, designers, web creators, production artists, surface designers and others who have come together to pursue common goals, share their experience, raise industry standards, and improve the ability of visual creators to achieve satisfying and rewarding careers.

These symbols are intended to help you advertise your access services to customers, audiences, staff and other targeted publics. Advertisements, newsletters, conference and program brochures, membership forms, building signage, floor plans and maps are examples of material that might display these symbols. You are encouraged to place these symbols next to the relevant information in all publications and media.

The Learning Disability Association of America (LDA) was formed in 1964 by a group of concerned parents on behalf of children with learning disabilities. LDA is devoted to defining and finding solutions for the broad spectrum of learning disabilities. LDA has 50 state affiliates and more than 600 local chapters in 50 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. Membership is composed of individuals with learning disabilities, family members, concerned professionals, and advocates for the over two million students of school age with learning disabilities and for adults affected with learning disabilities.

Michigan Assistive Technology Loan Fund

The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition (MDRC) has established the Assistive Technology Loan Fund to help people with disabilities purchase assistive technology devices and services.  The Loan Fund provides low-cost financing to persons with disabilities to purchase assistive technology devices that allow for greater access, increased mobility, enhanced communication, and job opportunities.
