Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Wage and Hour Division to provide public service through the fair, effective, and efficient administration of laws that protect the wages and fringe benefits of Michigan workers including paid medical leave, provide for the safe and legal employment of minors, and require posting of notices related to human trafficking, youth employment, paid medical leave, and minimum wage.

What we do

The administration and enforcement of wage protection laws in Michigan (the Payment of Wages and Fringe Benefits Act, the Workforce Opportunity Wage Act, the Youth Employment Standards Act, the Paid Medical Leave Act and the Prevailing Wages on State Projects Act) and the Human Trafficking Notification Act is the role of the Wage and Hour Division.

The division investigates complaints alleging non-payment of wages and fringe benefits, state minimum wage, overtime, equal pay, violations of the Youth Employment Standards Act, prevailing wage disputes and not displaying human trafficking, paid medical leave and minimum wage notifications. The Wage and Hour Division also educates employers and employees in the areas covered by these labor standards.
