Job Seeking Skills Training
Job Seeking Skills Training
Overview:
Job Seeking Skills will assist individuals in developing self-marketing skills to help implement career goals. It will address the value of work, overcoming barriers to employment, identifying skills and learning how to communicate these skills to perspective employers, effective methods of job search, understanding your rights under the Americans with Disability Act, disclosure of disability, reasonable accommodation, preparing for interviewing, mock interviewing and follow up.
Overall Goal of Job Seeking Skills Training:
To assist participants with identifying their job-related skills and to learn how to use these skills in the job search process, including networking and building relationships. Job Seeking Skills Training will inform participants of their rights under the Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act, if and how to disclose disability, ways of presenting disability issues in a positive manner, ways to address disability related concerns an employer might have, and the identification and discussion of reasonable accommodations. Participants will write an Ability Statement. Participants will learn about the do's and don'ts of job interviewing and illegal interview questions. We will discuss preparing for an interview. Each participant completes one or more practice interview(s). The interviews are reviewed and discussed with the participant to help them prepare for future interview opportunities. Participants will also learn about follow-up after the interview.
