Register Your Business
If you have employees covered by the Michigan UI law, you must register for an employer account. Apply through the MiWAM Employer Registration.
What happens after I register?
1. You’ll receive an Employer Account Number (EAN).
You’ll get your 10-digit EAN within 2–3 business days of registering. If your liability date (when you become responsible for paying unemployment taxes) is in the future, your registration will be processed after that date. To find your EAN, you can either enter your FEIN and confirmation number on the eRegistration page, or wait for it to be mailed to you.
2. UIA will confirm your employer account email is unique to your business.
3. A MiWAM account will be created.
4. You’ll receive an authorization code.
UIA will mail an authorization code letter to the physical business address within 7-10 business days.

Authorize Your Account
Once your MiWAM account is created, you’ll have 10 calendar days of limited access to your account. With limited access, you can file quarterly unemployment reports, submit payments, and manage your MiWAM user profile.
To gain full access to all MiWAM features (e.g., responding to claims), you must log in and enter your authorization code.
What if I haven’t received my authorization code?
1. Visit the MiWAM portal and click “Lost/Never Received Authorization Code?
2. Enter your email address and Employer Account Number (EAN) and click “Submit.”
3. UIA will mail an Authorization Code to the physical business address within 10 business days.
