Chief Deputy Superintendent
The Chief Deputy Superintendent’s team is under the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. This team is passionate about making a difference in the lives of Michigan’s children. Our efforts are guided by Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan. Much of the work of this team is to coordinate, align, and support the staff within MDE, that in turn supports educators in producing positive student outcomes. As a solutions-focused team, importance is placed on ensuring MDE is an asset to the education community. More specifically, this team is responsible for:
- Ensuring MDE has the system and supports that assist educators and the education community in making the best decisions for all Michigan learners.
- Directing the development, implementation, and monitoring of all federal education plans that steer some of the state’s education efforts.
- Guiding the deputies who oversee MDE’s three main areas: Business, Health, and Library Services; Educator Excellence, Career Technical Education, Special Education, and Administrative Law; and Assessment, School Improvement, and Systems Support.
- Collaborating closely with the offices of human resources, partnership districts, and strategic planning and implementation.
- Serving as a link between the State Superintendent and MDE.
