Computer Science Courses
Ensuring that an appropriately prepared and endorsed teacher is assigned to teach in Michigan’s classrooms is critical to student achievement. The State Board of Education (SBE) has approved standards for preparing teachers in each endorsement area.
The Computer Science (NR) endorsement was discontinued in 2017. This endorsement will not be removed from teaching certificates. School districts will be free to assign any teacher to these courses who provides evidence of professional development and holds a certificate for the grade level at which these courses are offered upon.
Michigan teachers who have participated in the Code.org program, in cooperation with the Michigan Math and Science Center Network and the College Board, may use this program as evidence of professional development appropriate for a computer science or the Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles course.
