Additional Grant Information
As outlined in the law, the following criteria apply to section 12d(2) grants:
- MDE shall allow grants for applicants that have already taken actions for internal consolidation within the previous two years and grants for applicants that have not yet begun internal consolidation activities.
- The department shall prioritize applications from LEAs and ISDs that meet any of the following criteria:
- Are in an opportunity index band, as described in section 31a (MCL 388.1631a), of 3 or higher.
- Are an ISD for which the percentage of pupils in membership who were determined to be economically disadvantaged in the immediately preceding fiscal year is equal to or greater than the minimum percentage for a district or public school academy to be in an opportunity index band, as described in section 31a, of 3 or higher.
- Are experiencing declining enrollment.
- Have no ability to issue bonds for infrastructure needs or have made a good-faith effort, as determined by the MDE, to issue bonds for infrastructure needs.
- Grants may be used for operational expenses related to internal consolidation and for infrastructure needs. Infrastructure needs may include, but are not limited, to removal of buildings.
