Why eat Michigan School Meals?
Students who eat healthy meals do better in school. Michigan School Meals make sure that every student has access to a delicious meal that meets the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrition standards, including kids with special dietary needs like food allergies.
The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, held on September 28, 2022, affirmed Michigan School Meals’ mission to provide healthy meals to all students. The National Strategy developed by the Conference seeks to end hunger, reduce diet-related diseases and disparities, and make America a stronger, healthier nation through solutions based on five pillars:
The Five Pillars of the National Strategy
- Pillar 1—Improve Food Access and Affordability
- Pillar 2—Integrate Nutrition and Health
- Pillar 3—Empower All Consumers to Make and Have Access to Healthy Choices
- Pillar 4—Support Physical Activity for All
- Pillar 5—Enhance Nutrition and Food Security Research
By choosing Michigan School Meals, your family can help to strengthen these pillars and create a better future for all Americans.
