Board of Certification for Municipal Wastewater
The EGLE director will appoint a member to a vacant term for three years or if there is a vacancy created mid-term. The Board consists of five voting members who have expertise in one or more of the following areas, including, but not limited to:
- One certified municipal wastewater operator certified at the A level
- One qualified engineer registered in the State of Michigan with knowledge in the operation and maintenance of a treatment works
- One department representative
- One municipal official
- One member of the public at large
The administrative rules promulgated pursuant to Part 41, as amended establish the Board of Certification, and its duties and responsibilities.
- The Certification Board Policy is developed by both the Board and the Department to substitute and define education and experience requirements for operators, as allowed by the administrative rules.
- The activities of the Board are primarily advisory except that continuing education courses (CECs) required for license renewal are reviewed for approval or denial.
- When the Board approves CECs, they are categorized into "Technical", "Managerial", or "Other." The amount of CECs to be awarded is based on contact hours.
- The Board also provides review and comment to the Department when there is consideration to suspend or revoke a certificate held by a certified wastewater operator.
The Board meets no less than twice each year at designated times and places.
