Welcome to RenewMI, your place to find information on many of the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) active state-funded environmental remediation projects, as well as a few non-state funded remediation sites of interest.
Environmental remediation are actions taken necessary to protect public health and the environment. These actions might consist of removing, treating, covering soils or treating groundwater contaminated with harmful chemicals, or by simply controlling the risks from these harmful chemicals through property use restrictions. State law provides many tools to accomplish these actions, which depend on the nature of the risk to public health and the environment; whether the site can be redeveloped; and, for sites without a liable party, the amount of state funds available.
Click the RenewMI map icon at the bottom of the page for additional information about projects in progress in your area or use the quick links below for EGLE's most frequently visited projects. The map will continue to be updated as project information is available.
Abandoned Mining Wastes
Historic mining operations left behind vast asbestos, PCB and metals contamination in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Gelman Sciences, Inc.
This is a site of groundwater contamination in Scio Township and the west part of the city of Ann Arbor.
Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant Response
Gasoline leaked from an underground storage tank system into a sanitary sewer which affected local residents.
Ford Livonia Transmission Plant
Chlorinated solvents are present in groundwater contamination at the Ford Livonia Transmission Plant, on and off-site.

Village of Milford
A chlorinated-solvent plume threatens the Village of Milford's drinking water system.
Spartan Chemical Superfund Site
Active remediation for the former chemical mixing and repackage plant is ongoing to remove contamination from soil and groundwater.
Wickes Manufacturing TCE Plume
Historic use of trichloroethylene (TCE) as a parts cleaner at a former automotive manufacturer has contaminated the groundwater in Antrim County.
RenewMI project viewer
This project viewer contains past and present projects from the Remediation and Redevelopment Division (RRD). RRD addresses environmental risks at properties where hazardous substances have been released into the soil or groundwater. The projects in the viewer are a mixture of sites where RRD is directly overseeing the environmental remediation efforts, and sites where a brownfield grant and/or loan have been provided to incentivize economic development.
