Mineral well permit application instructions
Part 625 (Mineral Wells) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended, establishes the legal framework in Michigan for the regulation of mineral wells — including test wells, brine wells, disposal wells, and other wells that are not specifically oil or gas wells but are used for extracting or disposing of mineralized water or related substances.
This part (codified at MCL 324.62501 to 324.62518) defines terms (e.g., “brine well,” “disposal well,” “artificial brine”), sets out the duties of the supervisor of mineral wells, and empowers the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to issue permits, adopt rules, and enforce compliance with the part’s provisions.
