Edenville/Sanford dams 2020 failure
On May 19th, 2020, Edenville Dam’s earthen embankment failed during a heavy rainfall event. The failure consequently caused the downstream Sandford Dam to fail. EGLE had assumed regulatory authority for the 96-year-old Edenville Dam in late 2018 after its license to generate hydropower was revoked by the FERC. Over 11,000 people were evacuated and 2,500 structures were damaged by the flood.
