Overview:
The Diabetes Education class is designed to provide an overview of the diabetes disease process, self-management of diabetes, and self-management of medications prescribed for it.
Overall Goal:
- Self-Blood Glucose Monitoring
 - Independent management of insulin injections
 - Actions of oral or insulin medications
 - Overview of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes disease process
 - Complications of uncontrolled diabetes
 - Recognizing and dealing with blood glucose levels when they are too high or critical
 - Recognizing and dealing with blood glucose levels whey they are too low or critical
 - Factors that affect blood glucose levels
 - Importance of monitoring blood pressure, A1c, and cholesterol
 - Type of care to expect from Medical Provider
 - Proper diabetic foot care
 - Proper diabetic dental care
 - Identifying medications and ability to take them independently
 - Review of proper utilization of pill organizer and accuracy
 - Contacting primary care provider and pharmacy when needed
 - Keeping track of medical appointments
