Additional PBT Operational Tips
Some additional tips to remember when using a PBT:
- Avoid extreme temperature ranges. If outside the proper temperature range, the FC10 will display "TEMPERATURE" and will not perform a subject test until the unit is warmed up or cooled down.
- A deep lung sample is important for best results.
- Do not allow the subject to blow cigarette smoke directly into the unit as it shortens the life of the fuel cell. Discretion should be used when in a smoke-filled area.
Remember, the PBT is not a substitute for proper investigative techniques. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) should still be conducted when possible. SFSTs provide valuable evidence for prosecution, especially if the evidential breath test has been refused or suppressed in court.
