For participants between the ages of 14-19 who have completed Segment 1 of Driver's Training:
Located at various sites across the state, run by MSP Community Service Troopers.
This program was developed through a project administered through the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning with funding provided from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This is a four-hour hands-on program. The curriculum includes:
- Defensive Driving
- Serpentine Exercise
- Controlled Braking
- Evasive Maneuvering
Michigan State Police patrol vehicles will be used for all driving exercises.
Classes run either 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Registration:
Class size is limited to 21 students. Interested parties may contact their local Community Service Trooper to inquire about registration.
All participants must submit a waiver, registration form & audio, photo, and video release form.

For fully-licensed GDL Level 2 drivers between the ages of 16-19:
Located at the MSP Drive Track in Lansing, run by the MSP Training Division.
"Train Like a Trooper" is a five hour program aimed at the teenager. The curriculum includes four hours of hands-on training and one hour of online instruction.
The areas covered in class and reinforced during practical exercises are:
- Defensive driving
- Skid control
- Serpentine
- Controlled braking
- Evasive maneuvering
Class size is limited to 18 students to allow a 3-to-1 student/instructor ratio. Michigan State Police patrol vehicles will be provided for all driving exercises.
